Sebastien Buemi wins the second race at Berlin

Sebastien Buemi extended his lead at the top of the Formula E drivers’ championship to 32 points after winning Sunday’s second Berlin ePrix leg for Renault e.dams.

Buemi qualified second behind Mahindra’s Felix Rosenqvist, who made a perfect start in his bid to complete a weekend double following his victory on Saturday.

Rosenqvist did not put a foot wrong until the pit stop, when he was unsafely released by one of his team’s mechanics into the path of team-mate Nick Heidfeld.

The stewards reacted by handing Rosenqvist a 10-second time penalty, meaning that Buemi was declared the winner despite finishing almost three seconds behind on-track.

Lucas di Grassi battled his way from seventh on the grid to finish third, limiting the damage of Buemi’s victory. Team-mate Daniel Abt finished fourth to give the ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport team a decent points haul from its home race weekend.

Jose Maria Lopez finished fifth for DS Virgin Racing ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne and Sam Bird, while Nicolas Prost took P8 in the second Renault. Oliver Turvey was ninth, with Nick Heidfeld rounding out the points for Mahindra.

Formula E now takes a one month break ahead of the New York City ePrix on July 15-16.
