Ferrari have confirmed that Daniil Kvyat will be the team’s development driver for the 2018 campaign.

Kvyat has endured a difficult couple of years in Formula One, having been demoted from Red Bull to sister team Toro Rosso four races into the 2016 season after some questionable performances.

The 23-year-old, who has been in F1 since 2013, continued to race for Toro Rosso during 2017 but it was announced he had been dropped from the team following the United States Grand Prix.

The Russian was not snapped up by any team for a senior driving role this season and there were reports suggesting he could look to take some time away from the sport to reassess his options.

However, Ferrari, who finished second in the Constructors’ championship last year, have decided to take a punt on Kvyat and named his as their development driver for 2018.
